Davis also spent multiple seasons as a third baseman and center fielder, and lesser amounts of time at other positions. He broke into the major leagues in 1890 and played through 1909. He is ranked among the top 100 players of all-time in several statistical categories. Davis was a switch hitter. 1.9 x 5.4 cm, case size: 13 x 8 cm.

Photograph is not included in the lot. Autographs of George Davis rank near the very top of the most difficult Deadball Era players in baseball history.

Some would argue that Davis might very well be the toughest Hall of Fame autograph to locate in the entire hobby. Elected by the Veterans Committee in 1998, Davis was not a shoe-in like most other stars of the day, which meant autograph seekers didn't pursue him or save autographs like they may have of other big names.

Davis did stay around the game long after he ceased playing. He even acted as the Amherst College baseball coach until 1918, which seemingly offered continued opportunities to obtain his autograph.

However, the practice of signing autographs was not commonplace during his playing days or lifetime, resulting in the limited number of genuine examples today. George Davis died in 1940 at the age of 70. 3x5/AP Gum Card Photo Check Letter SS Bat SS Ball.
